The hands of the clock are running backwards, the balloon is ready for takeoff: Bernhard Paul's Circus-Theater Roncalli is set for the grand anniversary tour celebrating the 50th birthday of "Europe's most admired circus" (Herald Tribune Washington).
Opening a door to the future
The team led by Bernhard Paul has prepared a true fireworks display of ideas for the 50th anniversary. "The program is not meant to be a best-of or a poetically dreamy retrospective, but to open a door to the future!" says the Roncalli founder and circus director. The beloved Roncalli flair and the courage to innovate will remain: "Strengthened by the experiences of the 50 years of the Roncalli idea, we are entering the anniversary tour with enthusiasm and passion. - Get ready to be surprised!"
The journey to the rainbow
On May 18, 1976, Roncalli celebrated its world premiere with "The Greatest Poetry of the Universe" and toured through Austria. It performed in Vienna, Graz, and Salzburg, where the audience could experience the unique blend of theater, clowning, and dream world for the first time. However, it was not until the premiere of "The Journey to the Rainbow" on June 4, 1980, in Cologne that the legendary success was established. Roncalli is a poetic counterpoint to the circuses of that time. The native of Lower Austria, Bernhard Paul, is celebrated as a renewer of circus art. He focuses on the overall staging. In the following years, the circus expands, is overwhelmed with visitors, performs at the invitation of cultural offices and theater festivals, and travels as a cultural ambassador of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia to Moscow, Seville, Copenhagen, and New York. Today, Roncalli stands for much more than just a circus. The live entertainment company is admired and awarded worldwide for its extraordinary show concepts and experiential worlds.
Roncalli's next generation
With its anniversary, Roncalli will not only celebrate the life's work of its founder Bernhard Paul in 2026. The next generation, with Vivian, Adrian, and Lili Paul-Roncalli, is already in the starting blocks. The anniversary year will also be an opportunity for them to present their vision for the dream manufactory to the world.
