The lively Rose Gooding has little in common with the pious Edith Swan, except that they are neighbors in the English coastal town of Littlehampton in the 1920s. However, one day Edith and others in the town receive offensive letters filled with nasty accusations in foul language, and the suspicion immediately falls on Rose. Scotland Yard investigates, and Rose even risks losing custody of her daughter. As the scandalous letters continue to haunt the town, only police officer Gladys Moss suspects that something is amiss and that Rose may not be the culprit after all... Based on a true story.
