"Light Serenade"

The light spectacle on the Danube. Over 20,000 red and yellow tea lights are set afloat on the Danube, beginning their journey. The light serenade has its own enchanting romance, further enhanced by the fireworks. The light serenade has been around for more than half a century. It has thus become a firm tradition and takes place every year on the Saturday before "Schwörmontag," which is scheduled for the penultimate Monday in July. More than 20,000 red tea lights are then set out on the Danube from Ulmer boxes at the beginning of the old town after nightfall – and collected again outside the city limits. The duration of the spectacle is therefore dependent on the flow rate of the Danube and its water levels. The banks on both sides are always densely packed with spectators. Although not much actually happens and it is roughly the same every year, the serenade continues to captivate anew. The magic of the little lights!
