Thematic tour with Kurt Lindner To experience the architecture of the Middle Ages from an extraordinary perspective and height, join us for a roof truss tour above the vaults of the monastery church. The Bronnbach cross-ribbed vaults showcase magnificent craftsmanship from the late Romanesque period. Until then, either an open roof truss could be admired above other church spaces, or a wooden ceiling, often painted, had been installed. The Romanesque roof truss in Bronnbach, built around 1200, was as beautiful as it was prone to damage. Between 1424 and 1426, a new roof, the "hoche werck," had to be constructed to address chronic structural damage. The resulting impressive Gothic framework consists of a purlin roof with a collar beam and a standing frame. Elaborate wooden joints remarkably demonstrate the carpentry skills of the Middle Ages. Access to the roof truss is via a steep tower staircase, leading to the bell tower and the stone vaults from the 12th century.
