Murg Valley - Steam train rides

One Sunday per month throughout the summer, the Ulm Railway Enthusiasts Association, Dampfnostalgie Karlsruhe, organizes a steam train ride from Karlsruhe through the wild and romantic Murg Valley to Baiersbronn. The journey begins at Karlsruhe Central Station. In Rastatt, we leave the Rhine Valley and head east along the Murg River, passing through Kuppenheim and Bad Rotenfels to Gaggenau and later to Gernsbach. The steam train continues past Eberstein Castle, which towers high above the Murg Valley, into the increasingly narrow valley and reaches Hilpertsau. From Weisenbach onwards, the mountain railway character is underlined by numerous bridges and tunnels. Particularly worth seeing is the Tennetschlucht viaduct just after Langenbrand-Bermersbach, one of the few original stone bridges still in existence. After passing Forbach with its characteristic church, Raumünzach, and Schönmünzach, the valley widens behind Schwarzenberg and soon, via Klosterreichenbach, we reach the spa town of Baiersbronn, the end of our steam train journey. All steam trains are catered for and offer free bicycle transport. On each day of operation, an additional trip from Baiersbronn to Raumünzach and back is offered. These trips are specially designed for guests from the middle/upper Murg Valley, so that they can also enjoy the ride on the historic train without having to travel to Karlsruhe. The departure time at Baiersbronn station is 1:48 p.m. The train returns to Baiersbronn station at 3:04 p.m. Tickets for these trips are available directly on the steam train.
