Hermann Hesse's Garden in Gaienhofen - Then and Now

Hermann Hesse created a large self-sufficient garden around his house, featuring berries, vegetables, fruit trees, and numerous flower beds. It is the first and only garden that he designed from scratch and cultivated by hand. Later gardens in Bern or Montagnola were only modified by him. This uniqueness of his garden justifies the reconstruction and interpretation by the current owner. Under expert guidance, not only is the North Garden, restored according to Hesse's own plans, presented and explained with background information, but also the restored South Garden, which is based on historical foundations: Here, in traditional beds as a small variety ark, grow the old flower and crop varieties that were already found in Hesse's garden.
