Art in the House of Hesse

"(...) The walls were crowded with pictures (...)" Hermann Hesse, 1931 Hermann and Mia Hesse had a profound appreciation for art at the beginning of the 20th century: the scene was undergoing a reformative transformation, and several painters such as Karl Stirner, Max Bucherer, and Ernst Kreidolf were part of their circle of friends. From 1922 onwards, the Zittau painter Walter Waentig lived in Hesse's former house. Works by him and other artists who spent time in this house or later painted on the Höri peninsula can now be seen here. This soirée invites you to trace the footsteps of the painters while enjoying an aperitif. There are often exciting details and backgrounds to discover in the origins and subjects of the works.
