"Joy of Christmas" Old Songs - New Sounds

Christmas Concerts of the Choirs of the Evangelical School Schloss Gaienhofen and the Gaienhofen Vocal Ensemble

On three festive concert evenings, over 200 participants will fill the Melanchthon Church with sound during the 3rd Advent weekend: The Gaienhofen Vocal Ensemble, the choir and mini-choir of the Evangelical School Schloss Gaienhofen come together under the overall direction of Siegfried Schmidgall for a musical grand project full of expression and atmosphere. In varying formations, children, teenagers, and adults will sing – accompanied by a band, the Gaienhofen Chamber Orchestra with strings and woodwinds, Siegfried Zielke on piano, as well as brass players and percussion from the Auenwald Brass Ensemble. The concert is a visible expression of a vibrant musical collaboration between the vocal ensemble and the Evangelical School Schloss Gaienhofen. It stands for shared commitment, artistic diversity, and a developed musical friendship. “JOY of CHRISTMAS” unfolds a musical panorama from the 16th century to the present – sometimes festive and majestic, sometimes delicate and contemplative, and at times surprisingly modern and exhilarating. Large choir and orchestral formations alternate with fine vocal and brass moments, allowing space for silence and wonder. Works by Bach and Handel encounter contemporary compositions and arrangements, familiar chorales stand alongside rhythmically fresh songs and colorful instrumental pieces.
