From Hand Washing to Tooth Extraction - Health in the Past

In the past as today, health has been a precious asset and far from a given. Challenging life circumstances, plagues and epidemics, as well as poor hygiene conditions often put people to a tough test. Discover with us the living conditions in a village in the Swabian Jura around 1900, the adversities people faced, the significance that today’s taken-for-granted basic hygiene conditions like water and water supply had back then, and how people had to learn to help themselves with both minor and major problems. Birth and death, illness and hygiene, life and dying in the old village are the themes of this journey through time.
