Master Concert: Song Evening

Hugo Wolf's "Italian Songbook" depicts all conceivable facets of a romantic relationship in pointed little mood pictures. Mateo Peñaloza Cecconi and Sophie Harr will present a selection of the songs. Hugo Wolf's "Italian Songbook" portrays all imaginable aspects of a love relationship in concise little vignettes. No word, no note is used excessively here; everything remains clear and simple, but by no means meaningless. On the contrary, the fusion of the Italian love songs, carefully translated into German by the later Nobel Laureate in Literature Paul Heyse, with the music of the "master of the small form" manages to open entire worlds in pieces just a few minutes long. The impossibility of direct communication runs through the work as a central theme. The 46 songs are typically distributed between a female and a male voice and presented alternately. For this evening, Mateo Peñaloza Cecconi and Sophie Harr have teamed up with pianist Michael Braunger to present a selection of the songs.
