Wintertime, pre-Christmas atmosphere – outside it’s getting cooler, the days are shorter, and indoors the coziness invites you to get creative with handmade embossing and to create wintery-Christmas artworks. Illustrator Katja Falkenburger introduces the technique of free embossing on paper in her workshop. In this workshop, you will learn how to integrate the tactile quality as well as the fascinating interplay of light and shadow of free embossing into your artworks and combine it with drawings and painting to create new forms of expression. You will discover how these techniques work on white or colored paper and how you can combine them with various coloring techniques to bring white or colored areas to life with textures, lines, and dots. Creating Christmas cards, hang tags, and envelopes: The focus of the course is on the technique of free embossing – completely without stencils, machines, or devices. With simple tools like a wooden hammer and fine chisels, you can create lines, contours, patterns, and textures. You will learn how to design wintery and Christmas cards, hang tags, and envelopes individually – perfect for the winter season and as creative gift ideas. Product and graphic designer, illustrator, and author Katja Falkenburger has developed the fundamentals of free embossing on paper and wood and compiled numerous examples and illustrations in her books PAPIER PRÄGEN and HOLZ PRÄGEN. For more information on free artistic embossing, embossing works, and the online shop, visit www.falkenburger.de. TOOLS: Tools, embossing pads, and a basic supply of papers will be provided.
