The Torches in Calw

To celebrate the 950th anniversary of the city of Calw, the Black Forest Association is reviving the "Calwer Fackeln" and looks forward to numerous participants. The tradition of torchlight processions is an ancient custom in Calw. As early as 1909, the Calwer Black Forest Association organized this unique spectacle. At dusk, the male school youth would gather at the impressive Hohen Fels. There, the torches were lit from a fire, and as the evening bells rang, they formed a long line, swinging their torches and cheering as they made their way to Brühl, where the torches were burned in a pile. Those who wish to witness this spectacle should meet on November 7 at 5:30 PM at the Town Hall in Calw. Together, they will hike to Hohen Fels to light the torches. Then, we will proceed together in a large arc through the Calwer Forest to Brühl. There, a great surprise awaits everyone by a mighty fire. Of course, unlike in the old days, this exciting event is not just for the male school youth, but for anyone who wants to have fun.
