The Würth Museum in Künzelsau-Gaisbach presents a cross-section of 60 years of work by Christo and Jeanne-Claude. This exhibition is held in honor of their 90th birthdays. The Bulgarian-born Christo Vladimirov Javacheff (1935–2020) and his French-born wife Jeanne-Claude Denat de Guillebon (1935–2009) were undoubtedly one of the most remarkable artist couples of the 20th century. In prominent public locations – such as the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, the Reichstag in Berlin, or Lake Iseo in Italy – they created impressive temporary projects that expanded our ideas of what art can be. Christo began to alter objects in 1958 in Paris. He wrapped cans and bottles, built his first installations with barrels, and gave everyday items, from strollers to stacks of magazines to bicycles and motorcycles, a new presence by transforming them into sculptural objects. The exhibition at the Würth Museum tells the story from these early beginnings to the last realized project, L’Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped. It is drawn from the Würth collection, which, with around 130 original works spanning six decades, holds one of the largest collections of works by Christo and Jeanne-Claude worldwide, thanks in part to a very personal relationship between the collector Reinhold Würth and the artist couple.
