Themed hike to the Kingdom of Heaven to Wettenburg and barbecue festival

As part of the 1250th anniversary of Urphar, historian Prof. Dr. Peter Rückert will lead an informative hike near his hometown on Sunday, September 28, starting at 11 a.m. The group will meet at Urphar (behind the fire station) and walk along the Main River, crossing the lock at Eichel to the Bavarian side. There, participants will follow the historic "Heunweg" up to the ridge of the Main loop. At the top, they will find a historically significant site for the region between the Main and Tauber rivers. Remnants of the former fortification walls can still be seen in the forest, as well as the earlier structure of the prehistoric "Wettenburg" in Himmelreich. Participants will learn more about the significance of this early cultural landscape. They will enjoy impressive views before returning along the Main River to Urphar. The hike lasts about 4 hours (approximately 12 km). The number of participants is limited to 50 people, so registration is required: contact Jürgen Weimer (jm.weimer@t-online.de). Starting at 3 p.m., there will be a small barbecue behind the fire station in Urphar for all citizens, featuring steaks and sausages. Unfortunately, the hike is already fully booked.
