Slow Art guided tour of the Karl Hofer exhibition

Slow Art Tour with Marie-Theres Pecher, MA, curator of the exhibition Karl Hofer is one of the most independent painters of German modernism. Between New Objectivity and Magic Realism, he developed an unmistakable visual language. On average, museum visitors spend only a few seconds looking at a work of art. The general tendency is clear: to see as much as possible in a short time. The Slow Art Tour addresses this phenomenon, inviting visitors to slow down their museum visit and daring to leave gaps. The interactive tour with curator Marie-Theres Pecher focuses on a few of the artist's works, which are viewed and discussed in depth. Choose works, look closely, and join in the collective dialogue. Between New Objectivity and Magic Realism, he developed an unmistakable visual language. The exhibition features over 60 paintings that present the most important themes, aesthetic power, and underlying view of humanity in Hofer's painting, using examples from all phases of his career. The exhibition on the third floor of Achberg Castle is complemented by paintings by artists of the Halle School, which echo Hofer's painting, as well as paintings by Willi Baumeister. They highlight the reception of Hofer's work between 1945 and 1955 in East and West Germany. *The exhibition is a collaboration between the Arthouse Collection, the Moritzburg Halle (Saale) Art Museum, Achberg Castle, the Bietigheim-Bissingen Municipal Gallery, and the Rostock Art Gallery.*
