Barbara Jungfer Trio

Blues and jazz guitarist Barbara Jungfer shows us with her new project how differently familiar folk songs and originals can sound when they are newly arranged. It’s fascinating when the melody is finally recognized.

Folk Songs and Originals
With her current trio, guitarist and composer Barbara Jungfer approaches the theme of "folk songs" in various ways: well-known and lesser-known German folk songs are rearranged, dressed in colorful and exotic garments, accompanied by non-European grooves, and brought to life for dancing. Others resonate lyrically and meditatively. With original compositions inspired by folklore, which sometimes evoke the sound of the alphorn, sometimes the Zwiefacher, or Balkan blues, she skillfully sheds light on the theme of folk songs from a different perspective. She bridges the past and the present, connecting traditional song culture with jazz and simultaneously intertwining the music of different cultures. Barbara is supported by Karoline Höfler, a recipient of the Baden-Württemberg Jazz Prize, on double bass, and Stuttgart drummer Ferenc Mehl. Together, the trio creates captivating music and takes the audience on a very personal musical journey. For "Folksongs & Originals," Barbara received funding from the Music Fund through "Neustart Kultur" in 2021. The CD "Folksongs & Originals" UTR 5100 was released in April 2023.
