Larceny

A young band presents their album "Crosscurrent." Although they chose the English word "Larency" (theft) as their band name, their entirely original compositions only seemingly reflect familiar melodic arcs. The English "Larency" is perhaps the most beautiful word for "theft" – and adopting and reinterpreting harmonies has always been the most beautiful "jazz standard." The band "Larceny" consistently plays their own compositions. Seemingly familiar, catchy melodic lines blend with modern sound patterns, with the ideal of "the beauty of music" remaining the guiding motif of these pieces. Each concert follows a dynamic arc of tension, ranging from romantic-melancholic to powerful and energetic sounds. The first album "Crosscurrent" (XJAZZ!Music, Berlin) is inspired by a journey to the Faroe Islands and tells of becoming, passing, and being. The compositions come from all members of the musician collective, which was founded in 2021 and can already point to initial international successes. Among other achievements, the track "Cheap Sheep" has already been included in the music database of "Radio Swiss Jazz." Additionally, the band was part of the "jazzahead! Clubnight" 2024 in Bremen and was the winner of the "Playground Competition" at "Jazzopen Stuttgart" 2025.
