# City Tour - Evening Tour **Registration required!** The earliest references to the work of night watchmen can be found in the Old Testament of the Holy Scriptures, long before organized night watch services were established in cities. Historically documented night watchmen were first deployed under Emperor Augustus in ancient Rome to protect cities and their inhabitants from fire, unrest, and crime. In Roßwag, too, night watchmen were an integral part of urban life between about 1750 and 1915. They carried out their important duties of securing the streets, monitoring for fires, and alerting citizens to dangers. On a contemplative walk through the village’s streets and alleys, participants can follow in their footsteps. Accompanied by atmospheric evening music and poetic texts, the world of Roßwag’s night watchmen comes back to life. The walk not only offers historical insights but also conveys a sense of the nocturnal atmosphere of times past. Amid old houses, winding alleys, and quiet streets, a very special impression emerges of the life that the night watchmen guarded and helped shape. **Important Note:** Please bring a flashlight, as the tour includes some darker sections.
