Guided Tour of the Concentration Camp Memorial Site

A Guided Tour with Rainer Mayer **Registration required!** What happened just outside our city during the final years of World War II? Why was a concentration camp built in the Glattbach Valley in the summer of 1944—along what is now the road from the B10 to the train station—a place that became the site of unimaginable suffering in the period leading up to April 1945? Approximately 1,700 people, including men, women, and children, lost their lives in this camp. They were forced into labor, suffered under inhumane conditions, and many died from deprivation, disease, or violence. A carefully guided tour of the historic sites sensitively explains this dark chapter in Vaihingen’s history. The tour highlights the historical context, provides information about the reasons behind the camp’s construction, the living and working conditions of the inmates, and the impact on the region. At the same time, it keeps the memory of the victims alive and conveys the importance of coming to terms with history for the present day.
