The tongue is more than a tool of language. It praises, seduces, laments, and plays. In "Silver Tongue," the Tübingen Chamber Choir Vokalkunst presents a program that explores the diverse symbolism of this expression and makes it musically tangible. The works depict a wealth of images: from the competing angelic tongues of two seraphim to the honeyed tongue of a young stable boy who seduces an innocent girl. The untamed tongues of tavern jesters also find their place – sharp-tongued and full of exuberance. Compositions by contemporary masters – including Kō Matsushita, Eric Whitacre, Jake Runestad, Nils-Peter Ankarblom, and a world premiere by Florian Prey – unfold a tension-filled interplay of "tongues" that encompasses the entire spectrum of the human voice: from sacred elevation to untamed sound poetry.
