City of Weinstadt and SG Weinstadt join forces: In the anniversary year "50 years of Weinstadt," the city is launching the first Weinstadt Triathlon – swimming, cycling, and running at the popular triathlon on September 28. Weinstadt is not only a city of wine or culture, but it is also a city of sports. Just in time for the 50th anniversary, the Office for Culture, City Marketing, and Sports is organizing the first Weinstadt Triathlon in collaboration with SG Weinstadt. Up to 400 participants can compete in swimming, cycling, and running on Sunday, September 28, starting at 10 a.m. The Weinstadt Triathlon is part of the Regio-Cup of the Baden-Württemberg Triathlon Association and the Stuttgart Sports Region. "Together with SG, we are creating something great and new," says Mayor Michael Scharmann. "And with this new sports event, we are also making a noticeable statement for grassroots sports beyond the city limits," adds Jochen Beglau, head of the Culture and Sports Office. The sports event will be designed as a popular triathlon – with shorter distances than a professional triathlon, so that as many amateur athletes aged 16 and over can participate as possible. The program includes 300 meters of swimming, 20 kilometers of cycling, and 5 kilometers of running at the new indoor pool, in the stadium, and on the adjacent fields, vineyards, and residential areas. Additionally, relay teams can register, allowing athletes to team up and divide the three disciplines among themselves. SG Weinstadt is excited about the city's initiative for such a sports competition: "We were surprised and immediately enthusiastic," says Jürgen Illg, head of the athletics department. They quickly got to work on the organization with a lot of expertise. The Weinstadt Triathlon is intended to take place annually or every two years in the future – alternating with the Remstal Marathon. The decision will be made after the first experiences with this year's triathlon have been gathered.
