Weingarten Season: Carmina Burana

Songs from Beuren Secular Chants for Solos and Choir with Orchestra and Magical Images by Carl Orff (1895–1982) Interdisciplinary performance based on Latin, Middle High German, and Old French songs and verses from a 13th-century manuscript discovered in the Benedictine monastery of Benediktbeuern, with German surtitles. Carl Orff's Carmina Burana holds an undisputed top position in the music world, measured by the number of staged or concert performances and studio productions. In the performance in Weingarten, an interdisciplinary production in the spirit of Orff can now be experienced, featuring choir, orchestra, dance, solos, and images (video installations). And who, if not the top artists from Ukraine, could tell us about the ever-turning wheel of the goddess of fortune, Fortuna? Meanwhile, this production has become one of the most successful and simultaneously touching stage works currently touring Europe. One cannot help but think that the artists from Odessa, during their rehearsals and performances on site, not only receive thunderous applause but also hear sirens, rising rockets, and explosions. Despite these adverse circumstances, they bring us Orff's masterpiece about becoming and passing away in an overwhelming production to Germany, with a passion and quality that is unparalleled.
