Katerina Poladjan: Golden Beach

A dilapidated villa in Rome, a mysterious doctor, a man on the couch recounting his life: In her new novel "Goldstrand," Katerina Poladjan weaves fragments of old Europe into a cheerful yet melancholic picture of the present. A holiday resort is being developed on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast in the 1950s: Goldstrand, designed as a sunny place for everyone. On the construction site, Eli is conceived. Sixty years later, he has long celebrated his greatest successes as a film director and is lying on the couch of his doctor in Rome. He speculates and fantasizes about his family history, which spans an entire century and crosses the European continent, from Odessa through Constantinople and Varna in Bulgaria to Rome. Katerina Poladjan was born in Moscow, grew up in Rome and Vienna, and now lives in Germany. She writes theater texts and essays; her prose debut "In einer Nacht, woanders" was followed by "Vielleicht Marseille," and together with Henning Fritsch, she wrote the literary travelogue "Hinter Sibirien." She was nominated for the Alfred Döblin Prize as well as the European Prize for Literature and participated in the Days of German-Language Literature in Klagenfurt in 2015. For "Hier sind Löwen," she received scholarships from the German Literature Fund, the Berlin Senate, and the Tarabya Cultural Academy in Istanbul. In 2021, she was awarded the Nelly Sachs Prize by the city of Dortmund. With "Zukunftsmusik," Katerina Poladjan was on the shortlist for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize 2022 and received the Rheingau Literature Prize 2022. The evening will be moderated by literary critic Carsten Otte from SWR Kultur. The event is held in cooperation with the Catholic Adult Education Heilbronn.
