Theme Weekend: Light without Electricity – Lighting in the Dark Season

This weekend at CAMPUS GALLI, we are turning back the clock not just by one hour, but by 1,200 years. Discover the theme of light and warmth in the early Middle Ages. Learn what light and warmth meant during this period, how people kept warm, and especially how they were illuminated. Experience the world of lighting in the dark season and get to know various historical and archaeological lighting devices. As part of our themed weekend, different lighting tools will be produced and demonstrated, ranging from beeswax candles to resin torches and tallow lights. Explore our hands-on activities in the workshops and witness the creation of these traditional light sources up close. Additionally, with light maker Ralf Doms, you can not only view lighting devices from different eras but also participate in candle making.
