Lecture: From Fragmentation to Merger. The Territorial Reform on the Münsinger Alb

With Dr. Marco Birn (District Archive Reutlingen) Despite significant resistance from the population, the district of Münsingen was dissolved on January 1, 1973, and the towns were divided between the two newly established neighboring districts of Alb-Donau and Reutlingen. However, the goal of the territorial reform was far from achieved. Effective municipal administrative units were to be created at all levels. This also affected the municipalities on the Münsinger Alb, not least the former district town. Sometimes voluntarily, sometimes under duress, the formerly independent towns merged into new municipalities or were gradually incorporated into Münsingen. The focus of the lecture is on the discussions, conceptual models, and developments on the Münsinger Alb up to 1975, the year in which the reform was completed.
