Innenstadt, 97877 Wertheim
Market vendors showcase their products. They include direct sellers, small-scale producers, hobby artists, and local businesses from the region.
Wertheim’s historic downtown is once again transformed into a large farmers’ market. From 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., 45 market vendors from the region and far beyond will present their diverse offerings. This event coincides with a Sunday shopping day in the city center. The Wertheim Farmers’ Market—a major attraction for visitors from across the region—is taking place for the 22nd time.
The market area stretches from the Main Vorplatz through Main- and Brückengasse and the Marktplatz to the Stiftskirche. The offerings range from agricultural products to cheese specialties, game, fish, beekeeping products, baked goods, teas and herbs, and spirits, as well as handicrafts, arts and crafts, decorative items, and much more.
The Wertheim Farmers’ Market is not only a place for shopping, but also for exchange and social interaction. Here, visitors have the opportunity to chat with producers, sample products, learn more about where the goods come from, and be inspired by the producers’ passion for their work.
A wide variety of food and drink options are available. The coffee truck offers various types of coffee, along with non-alcoholic beverages, freshly pressed apple juice, mulled wine, champagne, sparkling wine and wines, fish sandwiches, crêpes, burgers and fries, pizza, grilled sausage, Gammler, shashlik, onion steak, spiral potatoes and churros, Turkish pastries, honey waffles, and of course bratwurst in all possible varieties. The Frischmuth Bakery offers onion tarts at the market square, and you can find the perfect wine to pair with them at Grapes.
The District Hunters’ Association will be present at the market square with its mobile forest school, and the THW will showcase its emergency vehicles. Children can also look forward to a carousel on the Main River forecourt.
The annual highlight of the farmers’ market is the descent of the Wertheim castle goats from the alpine pastures. Accompanied by the Hasloch Fire Department Band, children will lead the goats from the castle across the market square to the collegiate church starting at 2 p.m. Here, the goats can be petted and fed before they move into their winter quarters.
Things are also hopping on the Main Forecourt. In addition to knitted, woven, and felted products made from alpaca wool, the “donors” themselves will be there. The alpacas have become a fixture of the farmers’ market and enjoy great popularity year after year with young and old alike.
In the Main-Tauber-Halle, the seventh edition of the Senior Citizens’ Fair is taking place alongside the farmers’ market. Under the motto “YES to Aging!”, around 30 exhibitors will present information and offers from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lunch and coffee and pastries will also be available here.
A visit to the museums is also worthwhile on Sunday. The exhibition “The Wertheim Main Bridge in Focus” at the Grafschaftsmuseum sheds light on the eventful history of the Main Bridge between Wertheim and Kreuzwertheim, from the first plans in 1362 to the present day. The Glass Museum displays sparkling glass bead jewelry as well as the exhibition “75 Years of Wertheim, City of Glass.” In addition, the glassblower will demonstrate his craft.
