Christian Elsässer Quintet

CD Release: "The Move" - Pianist, composer, and conductor Christian Elsässer is considered one of the most versatile representatives of contemporary jazz in Europe in his generation. He regularly collaborates with the most renowned ensembles in the international scene, such as the Metropole Orchestra (3 Grammys), the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, all German radio big bands (HR, WDR, NDR, and SWR), as well as the Munich Radio Orchestra. His musical partners include many stars of the industry, such as Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kurt Elling, Mike Stern, Vince Mendoza, Mike Mainieri, and others. With Niels Klein, Tim Collins, Henning Sieverts, and Fabian Arends – all significant voices in the German jazz scene – Christian Elsässer has found partners for his new quintet project who share his musical vision. All compositions are penned by the bandleader and span a wide range from intimate duos, a four-part canon that may remind one of J.S. Bach, impressionistic chord colors, to energetically charged groove pieces. The many different combinations and mixing possibilities of the individual instruments allow for a wide sonic spectrum as well as a large dynamic range. The vibraphone, as the exotic element of the ensemble, forms the link between the polyphony and warmth of the piano and the percussive nature of the drums, integrating organically into the overall sound. The album "The Move" was created in cooperation with Bavarian Radio and was released in spring 2025.
