Burgsteige 11, 72070 Tübingen

As part of the project, the results of the archaeological excavations at Stahleck Castle are now being presented in a traveling exhibition at Hohentübingen Castle. The occasion is the opening of the Castle Research Center at the University of Tübingen. The centerpiece of the exhibition is the little-known medieval Stahleck Castle – and the lives of the people who once spent their everyday lives there. A special highlight: In an audio play, you will accompany Otilia, the blacksmith's daughter, through a whole year of her daily life at Stahleck Castle. For several years, the University of Tübingen has been researching, together with the State Office for Monument Preservation and various regional partners, the interactions between castles, nobility, and cultural landscape at the northern edge of the Swabian Jura. The focus is on the ruins of Ober- and Untergreifenstein as well as neighboring sites, including Stahleck Castle, which together form a small-scale castle landscape par excellence in the upper Echaz Valley. As part of the interdisciplinary research project, the history, everyday culture, and resource use of the medieval lordship of Greifenstein are being explored from archaeological, historical, and architectural perspectives.
