Möggingen Castle Festival

SOLD OUT A play that builds on the tradition of postwar open-air theater and explores the involvement of individual residents of Möggingen in the Nazi regime, as well as the persistence of far-right ideology to this day. SOLD OUT  On the last weekend in June, the courtyard of Möggingen’s moated castle will serve as the venue for the Castle Festival, reviving the legendary post-war open-air performances, whose glorious highlight was the 1960 production marking the town’s 1,200th anniversary. This tradition was already revived with “The Indian Princess” for Möggingen’s 1,250th anniversary in 2010 and the “Living Chess Spectacle” in 2017 on Möggingen’s village square. This year’s play explores, among other things, the quartering of French officers in the castle, the involvement of some Möggingen residents in the Nazi movement, interpersonal conflicts during the occupation, and the persistence of far-right ideology into the present day. However, the title of this year’s play, “Albinle, the Castle Ghost,” suggests that it won’t be all serious matters. In addition to the theatrical performance, there will be musical entertainment following each show: on June 26, the “Alläfänzigä” from Immendingen, and on June 27, the band “Sound Kitchen.” The program will be complemented by a children’s afternoon on Saturday, food and drink stands (“Möggingen kocht”), and castle illuminations to round off each evening.
