"Change of Film - 35mm Introductory Course"

We have noticed that our audience appreciates the love for the analog. The screening room has been opened upon request several times before. But from now on, the doors will be wide open, so come by for the workshop when we say "ACTION!" About a decade ago, digitalization abruptly and completely changed the cinema landscape. In a short time, films were no longer delivered to cinemas as 35mm film reels, but almost exclusively in the then-new standard format DCP (Digital Cinema Package): initially on hard drives and now mainly as downloads via specialized platforms. Although digital projection offers many advantages, the cinema in the Blue Salon places great importance on continuing the tradition of analog film projection. When a 35mm copy of a film is available, it is preferred over the digital format whenever possible and sensible. The workshop offers the following content: a detailed behind-the-scenes look at analog film projection in the Blue Salon, an introduction to the history of film projection and the identification of various film materials as well as image and sound formats, the assessment of film material and preparation for the screening, hands-on loading and projecting of analog film material, including in crossfade operation with two projectors. We offer the four-hour introductory course for €40 per person (free for HfG students).
