In his monumental epic "War and Peace," Leo Nikolayevich Count Tolstoy takes stock after 2000 years of European war history and before the onset of modern wars. Without moralizing and without pathos, he describes the phenomenon we continue to face despite all oaths and resolutions ("Never again war") to this day. This is a significant reason to revisit this classic of world literature.
