Introduction to Mediation – Understanding Conflicts, Enabling Solutions

The workshop is aimed at anyone interested in mediation – regardless of whether you already work with conflicts or are simply curious about new ways of communication. The goal is to provide you with a clear overview while also allowing you to gain initial personal experience with the possibilities and effectiveness of mediative processes. Conflicts are part of human interaction – whether in professional everyday life, in family settings, or in teams and organizations. But how can they be resolved constructively without creating winners and losers? Mediation offers a proven approach: a structured, voluntary process aimed at bringing conflicting parties into a joint, solution-oriented dialogue. In this 2.5-day workshop, you will receive a solid introduction to the nature, structure, and principles of mediation. You will learn what distinguishes mediation from other forms of conflict resolution, what attitude mediators adopt, and what role they play in the process. We will also look at typical areas of application – from family mediation to workplace and school contexts, as well as intercultural or environmental mediation. A special focus will be on practical experience: through small, guided exercises, you will have the opportunity to try out one or two key methods of mediation for yourself – such as working with perspective shifts or exploring underlying interests. This will give you a sense of how mediative dialogue works and what competencies are involved.
