From medieval canons and dances to bebop, from free play to complex Bulgarian rhythms. With shawms, alphorns, double bass, 13 saxophones, and a clarinet, we rush through times and worlds. Les Saxofous: 13 saxophones and a clarinet under the direction of Mike Schweizer. An ensemble “...with a pulsating beat, improvisational communication, and expansive interaction” (Badische Zeitung), featuring “lascivious rhythm” and the “magical sound power of a good dozen saxophones” (Südkurier). Our guests are: Gesine Bänfer, bagpipes, medieval shawm, soprano sax < www.office-of-musicians-affairs.com>. With her shawm, she won the prestigious Early Music Competition at the Festival van Vlaanderen, Bruges, and the Belgian BRTN Radio Prize. For her bagpipe playing, she was awarded by the Festival Rencontre Internationales de St. Chartier (France) and received two awards from the Deutsche Popstiftung as “Best Wind Player” and for the “Best Folk Rock Band.” She is a sought-after studio musician and has contributed historical wind instruments and bagpipe sounds to the popular series “The Witcher.” Franz Schüssele, alphorn < www.franz-schuessele.de>, is an internationally renowned alphorn soloist and multi-instrumentalist. Co-founder of the “Gälfiaßler,” book author.
