Corpus Christi in Sipplingen

The Sipplingen Citizens' Militia Association is not a military organization, but rather a historical one that can look back on a very long history and has set itself the goal of preserving local customs. Today, the Bürgermiliz consists of three divisions: a marching band, a militia band, and a rifle team. It has its historical origins in the Baden Revolution, which reached its peak in May 1849. A lush and colorful carpet of flowers adorns our village on Corpus Christi. The idea for this type of Corpus Christi parade came from a clergyman in the 1920s. On the evening before the big holiday, at 10 p.m., the entire Sipplingen civil militia gathers with music and armed troops and celebrates the grand tattoo on the festively illuminated town hall square. On Corpus Christi Day itself, the population is awakened by cannon shots. The creation of the flower carpet is a community experience, often involving not only the families of the residents of the streets but also holiday guests.
