For Lola Blau, politics play no role. The young Jewish woman has just completed her acting training in Vienna and is eager to take on her first engagement at the Linz Landestheater. But then the Nazis march into Austria, abruptly ending her career before it even begins. At the urging of her friend Leo, Lola flees to Switzerland, and from there to the USA, where success in theater finally comes her way. However, she waits in vain for Leo throughout the entire war. In light of the impact of flight, war, and personal loss on her private life, Lola experiences her political awakening – not without confronting a feeling of profound helplessness. Considering the current state of the world, Lola's personal experiences – immortalized in Georg Kreisler's poignant songs – suddenly take on a chilling relevance for us...
