Mammoth, Hand Axe, and Sword. Exciting Stories from Archaeology in a Children's Book

Archaeology occupies a significant space in children's and youth literature. Already in the 18th century, there are images and texts about the Celts and the Roman era in children's and youth literature. In the 19th century, following Napoleon's conquest of Egypt, the themes of history and archaeology gain further importance. The fascination for the distant past, combined with mysterious finds that can be made, for example, around Müllheim from the Stone Age, captivates children to this day. The exhibition of the Archaeology Working Group of the Markgräfler Museum Association in the foyer of the Blankenhorn Palace features impressive children's books on archaeology, some of which have become "classics," as well as many "ancient," mysterious objects in display cases.
