For a long time, the ambitious amateur actors have been eagerly anticipating this premiere night. But nerves are running high. As soon as the curtain rises, one mishap after another befalls the brave amateur performers. It is just before the premiere of "Murder at Haversham Manor," a murder mystery set in an old English manor house. The story revolves around the manor's owner, Charles Haversham, who has been sent to the afterlife. Was it the fiancée, the brother, the friend, the butler, or even the gardener? Inspector Carter begins the investigation.
The ambitious amateur actors have been looking forward to this premiere night for a long time. With great care, they have crafted the sets themselves. While the first audience members are streaming into the hall, the last props are being arranged. In a murder mystery, everything must be just right. Nothing is as important as perfect timing and precise acting. Yet, nerves are frayed. As soon as the curtain rises, one mishap after another occurs for the brave amateur actors. They find themselves in the midst of a nightmarish scenario for actors. Doors are stuck, props are out of place, lines are forgotten or mixed up, parts of the set threaten to collapse repeatedly, and on top of that, the dog has gone missing. When the leading lady becomes unconscious due to an accidental blow to the head, the chaos is complete. But no matter how thick it gets, the show must go on. Their passion for theater drives the brave performers to rise above themselves. With the courage of desperation, they push against the chaos: maintain composure and make sure not to show any signs of distress!
Thus, not only does the murder plot in "Murder at Haversham Manor" take wild turns. This comedy offers the finest quirky British humor: a nod to Monty Python, Buster Keaton, and Charlie Chaplin. Moreover, it is a grand love letter to the theater. The three authors and actors, Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields, met as students at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Even during their studies, they founded the troupe "Mischief Theatre" in 2008 and performed with their unique blend of improv theater and comedy. They worked on "The Play That Goes Wrong" in their shared apartment, outdoing each other with wit and outrageous ideas, resulting in a major hit. Since 2012, the production has been running continuously in London's West End and was awarded Best Comedy in 2014. It has conquered Broadway and is now taking stages around the world. Comedy by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields. Translated by Martin Riemann.
