175. Erfurt Christmas Market

The Erfurt Christmas Market is one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Germany and the largest in Thuringia. The medieval old town of Erfurt around the Cathedral Square provides the perfect backdrop for a festive pre-Christmas season. Traditional crafts and Thuringian specialties can be found alongside a huge, candle-adorned Christmas tree with a nativity scene and hand-carved, almost life-sized figures, as well as many stalls resembling showmen's booths. The entire city center is aglow with lights, and shops and department stores are adorned with Advent decorations. Christmas melodies fill the air, and the scent of mulled wine and gingerbread wafts through the streets. Notable features include the approximately 25-meter tall, festively illuminated Christmas tree and the 12-meter tall Christmas pyramid. Especially on the Advent weekends, a rich program of events is offered.
