Conversation Concert: Female Composers

Fridemann Leipold, music editor of Bavarian Radio, is collaborating with pianist Kyra Steckeweh to present a conversation concert on the topic of female composers. Pianist Kyra Steckeweh has been exploring the little-known music of female composers from the 18th to the early 20th centuries for many years. In 2016 and 2018, her recordings of piano works by Mélanie Bonis (1858-1937), Lili Boulanger (1893-1918), Fanny Hensel (1805-1847), and Emilie Mayer (1812-1883) were released. In 2018, she co-produced the documentary "Komponistinnen - a cinematic and musical exploration" with filmmaker Tim van Beveren, which was awarded the Opus Klassik 2020, among other accolades. In 2020, she recorded piano works by Dora Pejačević (1885-1923), Sophie Westenholz (1759-1838), and Ethel Smyth (1858-1944) for "Deutschlandfunk Kultur." In 2023, Kyra Steckeweh and Tim van Beveren dedicated the documentary "Dora – Escape into Music" to composer Dora Pejačević, which has already received numerous international awards. Since then, Dora Pejačević's works have become a focal point in Kyra Steckeweh's repertoire.
