With Christmas works by Georg Friedrich Händel, Antonio Vivaldi, Arcangelo Corelli, Alessandro Scarlatti, and others, it was the shepherds who first learned of the birth of the Savior. In Italian cities, this story continues to live on in Christmas traditions to this day. Even during the Baroque period, composers were inspired by the pastoral sounds of the shepherds and their traditional instruments. Dorothee Oberlinger presents "Pastorale," a musical picture book of Italian Christmas, supported by actor Michael Witte as the narrator of special Italian Christmas stories.
