Vivaldi's widely traveled works

Deutsche Zentrale für Tourismus e.V.

Karlsruher Straße, 68723 Schwetzingen

With works by Antonio Vivaldi, Christoph Graupner, Johann Sebastian Bach, and others. Vivaldi never traveled to Germany, yet his works had a strong influence on German composers. The Saxon State Library in Dresden houses numerous copies that served as models for Johann Sebastian Bach, among others – an important source of inspiration for the Thomaskantor who never traveled to Italy. The court in Darmstadt also engaged with Vivaldi's music intensively. Christoph Graupner, who became the court conductor in Darmstadt in 1709, had many of Vivaldi's works copied. His own compositions show clear influences, and Vivaldi's concertos enriched the repertoire of the court orchestra, whose musicians later shaped the Mannheim orchestra. Philipp of Hesse-Darmstadt appointed Vivaldi as court conductor in Mantua and commissioned, among other works, the opera "Tito Manlio," from which aria copies made their way into the Darmstadt archive. Clemens Flick and his ensemble follow the traces of Vivaldi's influence in Germany.
