Schwälmer Christmas Market

From December 12 to 14, 2025, the Schwälmer Christmas Market in Schwalmstadt-Ziegenhain invites you to a magical Advent weekend once again. Against the picturesque backdrop of the Parade Square in the historic Ziegenhain water fortress, visitors can expect a festive program for young and old alike.

The Christmas market will be ceremoniously opened on Friday, December 12, at 2:00 PM in the Castle Church. On the Little Red Riding Hood stage, in the Star Tent, and throughout the market area, there will be atmospheric performances, walk acts, and live music. In the enchanting fairy tale room, children and families can enjoy puppet theater, creative crafting activities, and fairy tale readings. Young visitors can look forward to a special surprise: on Saturday and Sunday, the Schwälmer Bread Shop invites children to a Christmas bakery, where they can bake their own cookies. Additionally, pony rides will take place at the castle stud on Sunday.

Along the market stalls, visitors can discover handicrafts and regional specialties, while the Schwalm Museum offers rustic delicacies in the Lüderkeller. A fairy tale encounter awaits both young and old visitors today, as they can meet "Little Red Riding Hood." She will be present between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM near the information stand of the Tourism Service Rotkäppchenland e.V., but will also be found amidst the hustle and bustle of the event. So, for those who have always wanted to know why our region is called the Little Red Riding Hood Land, what the German Fairy Tale Route is, how long it takes to put on the traditional costume – complete with the red hood – and what it signifies, as well as how the "true" story of Little Red Riding Hood came to be, here is the chance.
