Warm invitation to a round tour in the heights of Kniebis with the SWV Zavelstein e.V.

Kniebis – Home Trail - Premium Path

You are cordially invited to a round tour on the heights of Kniebis on October 19, 2025, instead of the Alb hike, which has been canceled for organizational reasons. This home trail, primarily along natural forest and meadow paths, is certified as a premium hiking trail and focuses on nature and local knowledge, featuring numerous information boards through which we learn about the history of Kniebis and interesting facts about biology, ecology, and forestry. Therefore, the hike, starting at the Kniebis visitor center, is quite engaging with its many stations and offers wonderful views, for example, of the Ellbachsee from a platform (weather permitting). The first section to the Ellbachsseblick, the "Räuberwegle," is also well-suited for families. The hiking route also passes through the village of Kniebis with its church and monastery ruins, then back into the forest along a section of the Baden-Württemberg border path with old boundary stones and explanatory boards. After the Waldblick Hotel, the path steadily leads hikers uphill to the well-preserved historical railway tracks along the border path and a final stretch back to the starting point. A stop for refreshments is planned.

Pure walking time: approx. 2.5 – 3 hours
Equipment: good, sturdy hiking shoes, hiking poles recommended, packed lunch, weather-appropriate clothing
Departure: 10 AM from the parking lot at the sports field to form carpooling groups
Return: approx. 5 PM
