Author reading: Philipp Hübl, Moral Spectacle

Deutsche Zentrale für Tourismus e.V.

Graf-Eberhard-Platz 10, 72574 Bad Urach

In a time when likes, shares, and moral judgments often come closer together than we would like, Andreas Hübl takes a keen look at a phenomenon of our present: the spectacle of morality. In his lecture, Hübl highlights how morality is increasingly no longer just a compass for action, but is becoming a strategic resource. Accusations are made where clear transgressions are hardly provable – and where the actual concern is no longer at the center, but rather the self-positioning as morally superior. What matters is the staging: moral outrage as a means to enhance reputation, to reaffirm oneself – and not least to generate political attention. Especially in social media, Hübl argues, this form of moral self-staging experiences unprecedented amplification. Registration required. In cooperation with the bookstore am Markt, Bad Urach, and the State Center for Political Education Baden-Württemberg.
