Future in a Glass! — The Big Wine Event with Future Wines in Waldulm

On Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 11 AM to 5 PM, various wineries will present their future wines made from new grape varieties, known as PiWis, in Kappelrodeck-Waldulm. Let yourself be poured a taste of the "future in a glass"! On November 8, Waldulm will host the "Future in a Glass!" for the first time. Visitors can sample a variety of wines from new, robust grape varieties (PiWis) at the fifth major tasting of future wines, which is taking place for the first time in Waldulm. The so-called PiWis will showcase their full diversity: wines from new cultivars developed over the last few decades, from all German grape breeding institutes, from Siebeldingen in the Palatinate, from Freiburg in Breisgau, from Geisenheim in the Rheingau, from Weinsberg in Württemberg, as well as from Klosterneuburg in Austria and from Swiss private breeder Valentin Blattner will be presented here. Time for the "Future in a Glass!" What began in 2023 with twelve wineries from the Ortenau wine region has since expanded beyond regional and state borders. Winemakers and wines from Kraichgau, the Saar, Rheinhessen, and the Mosel came to "Future in a Glass" on the Badische Wine Route in April 2025 in Offenburg. A festive day for wine explorers and traditionalists At "Future in a Glass," not only wine explorers will find something to enjoy, but traditionalists can also be convinced that the wine qualities of the "new" varieties are on par with the old grape varieties. The new grape varieties demonstrate their qualities in various styles, from steel tanks, barriques, tonneaux, with bâtonnage, as Pétillant Naturel, as fully fermented red wine, and as Beerenauslese. The range of alcohol content varies from alcohol-free sparkling wine made from 'Muscaris' to 15% vol. 'Souvignier Gris'. A unique wine tasting For this unique event, the red wine experts of the Waldulm winemakers will open their tasting room for external wineries for the first time. The winemaking cooperative has also heralded a "change of times" with "Souvignier Gris."
