Calw
Marktplatz 9, 75365 Calw
Calw's market square, with its wonderful historical backdrop, is one of the most beautiful places to get into the Advent spirit.
**Fairytale Calw** When the entire ensemble of half-timbered houses is bathed in romantic lights and the scent of mulled wine and freshly baked treats wafts through the old town, a stroll past the lovingly decorated Christmas houses becomes a very special experience.
**Over 80 stalls** on the open-air grounds, as well as an arts and crafts market in the music school hall and the traditional Christmas café, are set up and lovingly decorated on the market square and in the surrounding alleys and adjacent buildings. There you will find goods such as wooden figures, nativity scenes, wreaths, chocolate, sausage and cheese specialties, roasted almonds, cookie cutters, and much more. Delicacies such as bratwurst, langos, crêpes, potato noodles, dumplings – and, of course, mulled wine, tea, or coffee – provide the appropriate culinary accompaniment. Here, too, there are no limits to the variety on offer. Music will be played at various locations to entertain visitors. Among others, the Calw City and Youth Band, the Altburg Traditional Band, the Stammheim Music Association, Stimm3, reVocali, and many other acts will be performing. On Friday evening, a DJ will be spinning tunes for a winter party – dancing is allowed. The program booklet with all the information, special features, the supporting program, other activities, and the goods and delicacies on offer can be found [here](https://mein.toubiz.de/api/v1/file/a04898bf-9426-4cdd-b34a-9ba62a2e2ae5/244bdd46f8a5fc2452bd4e200726249ca0792bbcd2cd57a1c10b51aeaf53bbd7/view).
**Traditions and activities surrounding the Christmas market** The **Christmas café** in the town hall foyer invites you to enjoy treats for the soul and the ears. The Advent **arts and crafts market** will once again take place in the music school hall.
An old tradition lives on in Calw with **baking bear paw cookies** for a good cause. These treats are a special delight – and for a good cause.
A special feature is the **Calw Springerle model**, which has a striking building as its motif every year. To mark the 950th anniversary of Calw, the already sold-out models "Stadtkirche" (town church), "Rathaus" (town hall) and "Nikolauskapelle / Nikolausbrücke" (St. Nicholas Chapel / St. Nicholas Bridge) are being reissued.
A Christmas stroll through the city with a view of the historic old town from a high trail or a climb up the church tower of the city church will put visitors in a magical Advent mood. **There is also plenty on offer for children:**
Children can write their wish lists at the **Engelspost** (Angel Post Office). Because Calw also has a "hotline" directly to the Christ Child. A cozy Advent lounge invites visitors to enjoy bread on a stick by the campfire. In addition to a children's carousel, a train, and an alpaca petting zoo, the little ones can do crafts, paint, and listen to stories. And, of course, a visit from St. Nicholas is a must. **New this year is the Wichtelgarten (gnome garden):** in the newly landscaped city garden, an imaginative, lovingly designed place is being created that immerses visitors in a magical world with little gnome figures, houses, and other creative elements.
Schools, kindergartens, clubs, families, and local artists create a colorful and lively atmosphere that enchants young and old alike and brings the anticipation of the Christmas season to life in a special way.
**Market hours:** Thursday, November 27: 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday, November 28: 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday, November 29: 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, November 30: 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
**Traffic changes due to the Christmas market** Due to the Calw Christmas market and the setup and dismantling work in the days before and after the Christmas market, there will be restrictions and road and parking closures in the city center. This will affect the market square, Marktstraße, parts of Salzgasse and Altburger Straße, and the area in front of the Hermann Hesse Museum.
Temporary restrictions in the aforementioned streets are to be expected from Monday, November 17: the Marktstraße – Marktplatz – Salzgasse and Altburger Straße – Marktplatz – Postgasse axes will be partially closed on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Diversions to Am Schießberg, Im Zwinger, and Hermann-Haffner-Straße will be via Badstraße and Metzgergasse or via Schillerstraße. The barrier in Schillerstraße will be open during the aforementioned period, and some one-way street regulations will be suspended.
Access from Marktbrücke to Lederstraße, e.g., to the Calwer Markt parking garage, will also be possible during the market. Access to Torgasse, Biergasse, Nonnengasse, and Postgasse will be via Untere Ledereck.
**Weekly market relocation** The weekly market will be relocated to Lederstraße on November 22 and 29: on these two days, you will find stalls selling fresh fruit and vegetables, baked goods, cheese specialties, antipasti, meat and sausage products, and much more in the area between Hörgeräte Geers and the AOK office.
