Guided tour of the Stonecutter Museum Mühlbach

Discover the history of the rapid rise and heyday of the quarries and the stone masonry trade during a guided tour of the Stone Mason Museum. Numerous exhibits, as well as the vivid representations of a stone mason's hut and a quarrying situation, provide an exciting insight into the hard working world of stone masons. The history of Mühlbach is closely linked to the stone masonry craft. The peak phase of the trade began in the second half of the 19th century, as evidenced today by the Mühlbach sandstone used in the staircases of Mainau Island and in the construction of the Badischer Bahnhof in Basel. The museum is housed in the impressive town hall and school building from 1903, which, with its sandstone facades, along with many other buildings in Mühlbach, tells of its former glory and fame.
