Heilbronn Harbor Market

It is one, if not THE traditional event in the city center of Heilbronn: the Hafenmarkt (Harbor Market). Potters from all over Germany and neighboring European countries come to the Heilbronn Hafenmarkt. This has been the case for many hundreds of years. Vases, bowls, and all sorts of artistic figures will soon bring splashes of color to the city center. Their commonality: they are all made of clay. Numerous potters from all over Germany and neighboring European countries offer their household, decorative, and garden items. Children are allowed to try their hand at the potter's wheel at two stands at the Hafenmarktturm (Harbor Market Tower) and in the Kiliansplatz area near the Seven-Pipe Fountain. And those who have unleashed their creativity will surely find joy in riding the carousel or playing at the Hafenmarkt playground. There is also plenty of food available. In addition to the many restaurants and cafés in the city center, there will again be additional snack stands on Sülmerstraße. Langos, sweets, grilled variations, and Baumstriezel provide extra treats in the city center. On all days, the Hafenmarktturm can be climbed for free. From there, visitors have a great view of Heilbronn, the surrounding vineyards, and the Neckar Valley. Tradition and Growth The Hafenmarkt is certainly one of the most traditional events in Heilbronn. As early as 1487, pottery was sold in the Hafenmarktplatz, which got its name from the "Hafner" (potters). The tradition was interrupted by World War II. It wasn't until 1988 that there was once again an annual pottery market at the old location on the first weekend of October. Over its long history, the market has, of course, changed significantly. While pottery items such as dishes, cups, and pots were once used for everyday purposes, today mainly decorative products like vases, wall plates, jewelry, flowers, candlesticks, animals, fountains, and figures are offered.
