Ferienwelt Südschwarzwald

Lindenweg 1, 79737 Herrischried

Nearly 300 years ago, the saltpetre workers fought for democracy and human rights. The Saltpetre Worker will reveal the special role this struggle played in our region and in Herrischried with great empathy, enthusiasm, and passion. Farmer, saltpetre worker, freedom fighter: In the 18th century, Michael Eckert embodied several roles in one person. Like his fellow peasants, he roamed the farms of the Hotzenwald, laboriously scraping potassium nitrate from the stable walls and thus supplying the raw material for the production of black powder. It was hard, extra work that the peasants of that time had no choice but to do in addition to their daily chores on the farms. But today, Michael Eckert also stands for something else: for the unbending resistance of the Hotzenwald farmers against the power claims of St. Blasien Abbey and for an early, remarkable struggle for democracy and human rights over 300 years ago. Michael Eckert brings his story back to life against the backdrop of the Klausenhof Open-Air Museum. With genuine commitment and unfeigned enthusiasm, he recounts the uprising of his ancestors, their extraordinary solidarity, and how this unity among the farmers ultimately fell apart. An engaging guided tour that brings history to life, without any detachment or distance. **Registration is required**!
