Ferienwelt Südschwarzwald

Lindenweg 1, 79737 Herrischried

Almost 300 years ago, the Salpeterers fought for democracy and human rights. The Salpeterer will reveal the special role this struggle played in our region and in Herrischried with great empathy, enthusiasm, and passion. **The Salpeterer Tour—a moving journey to the freedom fighters** Michael Eckert, a farmer and Salpeterer by trade, was a passionate freedom fighter. In the 18th century, Salpeterers went from farm to farm in the Hotzenwald. Here they collected the calcium nitrate needed to make black powder from the walls of the barns. It was backbreaking work that Michael Eckert also undertook as a side job alongside the many demands of his farming. Michael Eckert, a saltpeter collector from Herrischried, recounts with great empathy, enthusiasm, and passion the struggle waged 300 years ago by the saltpeter collectors for democracy and human rights. The uprising of the local farmers, their resistance against the power-seeking ambitions of the neighboring St. Blasien Monastery, and the dissolution of what was once an extraordinary unity among the Hotzenwald farmers are presented in a gripping and entertaining performance set against the backdrop of the Klausenhof Open-Air Museum. **Registration is required!** Britta Kaiser, Tel. 07764-920043 or klausenhof@herrischried.de **Guided tour including museum admission: €10.50** Optionally, a snack consisting of bacon, assorted sausages, bread, butter, and a beverage (beer or soft drink) can be booked. **The cost of the snack is €19 per person**.
