World Games 2029

Karlsruhe is the host city for the World Games 2029! This international sporting event brings together people from all over the world "in the heart of Europe." As the first city since the founding of the World Games, Karlsruhe will host the event for the second time.

With the major event under the motto "World Games in the Heart of Europe," Karlsruhe not only connects its geographical location in the heart of Europe. The event also symbolically and emotionally represents sporting and cultural diversity and the togetherness of people from around the world who share a passion for sports and feel united through it. More than 5,000 athletes from over 100 countries will compete in around 35 sports. The World Games promote non-Olympic sports. In line with the values of inclusion and community associated with the World Games, Karlsruhe emphasizes participation: Over 200 clubs, initiatives, and volunteers are actively involved in organizing the World Games.

The return of the World Games after nearly four decades is not only a recognition of Karlsruhe's status as a sports city but also an acknowledgment of the successes of past events. As the first city since the founding of the World Games, Karlsruhe will host the Games for the second time. The World Games in 1989 significantly contributed to solidifying the city's reputation as a venue for major sporting and cultural events: From the city's anniversary in 2015 to the Ecumenical Church Day in 2022, the city has demonstrated that it possesses the necessary expertise and organizational structure to successfully carry out large events.
